Why do the first 40 characters matter most?
Because the opening is the only part of your title you can rely on being visible everywhere. Etsy does not publish a truncation number for its own search results, but community measurements consistently find roughly 40 to 50 visible characters on mobile, where most Etsy traffic browses. What counts as keyword stuffing in a title?
